Lee Marie Sanchez, minister of the Laguna Beach congregation, will speak about the Muslim religion. This is what she says:

 “Our Muslim Neighbors”
Islam is the religion, founded by Muhammad, whose members worship the one God of the Jews and the Christians (God is called Allah in Arabic) and follow the teachings of the Q’uran. Islam means “submission to the will of God”; adherents of Islam are called Muslims. But, we want to know more, so we will explore a religion we think we know about, but may be more misunderstood than most. Come, let us learn more together about our Muslim neighbors.

This sermon is from a series on World Religions which Rev. Lee Marie Sanchez has brought to a number of congregations, including her own, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Laguna Beach. Our Unitarian Universalist faith is called the Living Tradition as it draws from many Sources. One of which is the “Wisdom from the world’s religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life”  This morning we will explore Islam. Rev. Lee Marie has been preaching regularly for UUSHD for more than 6 years now and always looks forward to being in the High Desert.

This Sunday, March 20th, we will celebrate the first day of spring with the Unitarian Universalist Luminescence ceremony. The ceremony helps us express the concepts UUs hold dear and shows us pathways we may follow toward our own spiritual fulfillment.

The topic will be “Our Search for Meaning.” Diana Del Toro’s presentation will draw from psychologist and holocaust survivor Victor Frankl and from UU ministers. Those who wish may share with us what creates meaning in their lives.
